Very Hungry Caterpillar Cake Smash | Middletown, CT

One of my favorite preemie babies is ONE?! It seems like just yesterday I was photographing his newborn session! Little Elliott came back for his first birthday cake smash at my studio and I was so excited when his parents chose Eric Carle themes, especially The Very Hungry Caterpillar! Elliott was born extremely preemie with his twin sister Tate. Unfortunately, Tate passed away a few weeks later. 🙁 We try to honor her in our sessions together, so for our “pre-cake” portraits, we used a simple background embellished with a purple balloon to signify Tate. Elliott LOVED playing with it and gave us that million dollar smile! Cake time was new for him, but once he got the hang of the texture and feel of the frosting there was no going back! Of course, we had a beautiful matching cake from Betty’s Cake Creations that told our themed story perfectly! After Elliott had sufficiently smashed that cake, it was time for a quick bath! Baths are great to clean off and take a few extra cute photos as well! These are also great for the babies that aren’t quite walking yet as they will stay sitting in the tub. Elliott loved the bath and gave us so many smilies, it was hard to narrow down which were the favorites! Which are YOUR favorites? Comment below!
